Dr. Leon Alkalai has accepted an invitation to be the Guest Editor of a special issue of the International Journal of Critical Computer-Based Systems (IJCCBS, http://www.inderscience.com/ijccbs), with Drs. Tim Tsai and Tomohiro Yoneda as Co-Editors. The authors of the best papers accepted to PRDC 2011 will be invited to submit extended versions for publication in the special issue.

Prof. Algirdas Avižienis (Emeritus Professor at UCLA and Rector Emeritus at Vytautas Magnus), whose pioneering and leading work has shaped the discipline of fault-tolerant and dependable computing, has agreed to provide a keynote address for the PRDC Symposium. Prof. Avižienis will provide a retrospective of fault-tolerant computing and his insight in future directions.

Mr. Brian K. Muirhead, Chief Engineer at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will be a keynote speaker at the PRDC Symposium. Mr. Muirhead has worked on numerous spacecraft and technology projects since joining NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 1978, including the Galileo mission to Jupiter, the Shuttle Imaging Radar-C, and the Mars Pathfinder mission. He worked as the chief engineer of the Mars Science Laboratory until August 2004 when he became Chief Engineer of JPL.

Mr. Muirhead received his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1977 and a Master of Science in aeronautical engineering from Caltech in 1982. He is the recipient of NASA's Exceptional Achievement Medal for his work on SIR-C, and the Exceptional Leadership Medals for his work on Mars Pathfinder and Constellation. He was designated a JPL Fellow in 2009. He is the author of "High Velocity Leadership" (Harper Business, 1999, with William Simon), and "Going to Mars" (Simon and Schuster, 2004, with Garfield and Judy Reeves-Stevens).
